Biography - Shelly Menear

In her position with the College, Shelley has established a great working relationship with the Maryland State Police McHenry Barrack and the Garrett County Sheriff’s Department, which she is the liaison for the grant program between the College and the Sheriff’s department.  Shelley also currently serves as the Staff Senate President, the Finance, Facilities and Safety Committee Chair, and is a member of the CARE (Campus Assessment Response and Evaluation) Team, as well as having served on various other committees.


Shelley is also active within the Western Maryland community. For the last few years, she has served on the Local Emergency Planning Committee for Garrett County and has worked to develop a Community Partners Program between Garrett County and Garrett College. Shelley has also served as the MCPA Area Representative for Western Maryland for the past two years, establishing a partnership between MCPA and Garrett College, listening to the needs of the public and assisting in bringing increased training opportunities to the area.


Shelley Menear is a 2007 graduate of the University of Maryland-College Park with a BA in Criminology and Criminal Justice. Shelley has been employed at Garrett College for the last 6 years as the Coordinator of Safety and Security Services. During her time at Garrett, she has ensured the College’s compliance with all federal and state regulations in regards to Campus Safety and has worked hard to develop new programs and educational activities on campus for students and staff alike. Some of Shelley’s achievements on campus include establishing and updating new policies and procedures on campus for Substance Abuse, Weapons, Trespassing, and Sexual Misconduct. Shelley also worked diligently on the establishment of the College’s Emergency Preparedness and Response Team and the updated Emergency Action Plan.
